John Hazelrigg

     John Hazelrigg was born in 1798 in Clark County, Kentucky, the son of Graham Hazelrigg and Hannah (Morgan) Hazelrigg. He married Cyanah H Cottrell, daughter of Reuben Cottrell and Sarah Homer Patman, on 3 October 1832 in Shelby County, Kentucky. John was credited with killing the last bear in the Masonville Precinct of Daviess County, Kentucky in the fall of 1833. He was out shocking corn when his dog Master Bruin started barking and ran after a bear. The bear climbed a hickory tree nearby and remained in the tree until John returned from fetching his rifle. He then killed the bear with the first shot.
