He was in the Fort Donelson and Shiloh campaigns, but was later obliged to resign his commission due to ill health. Isaac was promoted to Major on 4 January 1862. He ended military service on 11 June 1862 at Mississippi near Corinth due to chronic diarrhea. He married Margaret Stout, daughter of Benjamin Stout and Elizabeth Lee, on 23 December 1868 at Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky, at the residence of Ben Stout by Joseph C Maple.
