Robert Lansdale Brashear was baptized on 10 April 1898 at Christ Episcopal Church, Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, on Easter Sunday by Rev Joseph J Cornish with Andrew Jackson Ragland and Emmaline Hyde Ragland serving as sponsors. He left the property in Warren County called "Knob Orchard" to "be sold and the proceeds to be used as a fund as far as it will go to aid in giving my grand son Robert, son of R L Brashear, named for my son Robert, a collegiate course, if he manifests a disposition to take it. The money to be put at interest until he shall have reached the age of fifteen years, and then thus applied if he be alife by his father..." On 15 May 1902, Robert's grandfather Walter Curren Brashear amended his will after having sold the "Knob Orchard" property, to leave the sum of 250 dollars, accuring from the last two payments of the land, to his son R L Brashear, to "be used exclusively in adiing his son Robert Brashear to acquire a thorough knowledge of Electrical Engineering if he shows any disposition to take such a course, or an aptitude for it." One summer Kathleen Brashear and her brother Robert Brashear, along with several other children, were invited to a birthday party for Edward Covington. They played "Jennie put the kettle on and let's all take tea" and "Drop the hankerchief". They were given "little glass lanterns filled with hard candy as favors." Robert Brashear found a Civil War cannon ball and a projectile on the Baker Hill property next to his home. He placed the cannon ball in the greenhouse water tank behind his home and threw the projectile in the pond to keep them out of the way of the children. He and his sister Kathleen Brashear spent many hours of their childhood hunting for "minney balls" from the Baker property, once a Civil War fort. They used the minney balls for sinkers on their fishing lines. A fair was held annually at Covington Woods at the end of Magnolia and Nutwood streets in Bowling Green. One year Richard Levi Brashear took the top of of his surrey and decorated it with huge lily pads to participate in the parade during the fair. Kathleen Brashear stood by her mother Della Zalame Brashear and held pick lotus blossoms while her brother Robert Brashear sat on the front seat with Mr. Brashear. After the Bowling Green fair moved to another fair grounds, Richard Brashear entered his young buzzards in the poultry division. "He won a prize and everyone wanted toknow what kind of fowl they were. He entered them as Chinese birds of some kind. They were really unusual with pink feathers more like plumes. A man from the Carnival gave him ten dollars for the pair." His mother was delighted because they had already caused the death of one of her hogs. He received his early education in city schools and old St. Columbus Academy. He was described as medium height, medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair and having lost one foot in June 1917. He registered for the draft for World War I on 6 June 1917, while living at Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, reporting he was employed in the tobacco industry. Robert entered a picture in a national contest sponsored by Popular Science Magazine in August 1926. He was listed in the January 1927 issue as one of 50 winners of $5.00 for his picture. In 1931 Robert had a photograph of his bee hives, which were located behind the Brashear farm on the Louisville Road, turned into a postcard. At the time he had 10 hives. The ration book was secured in his name by his sister Kathleen Hope Brashear. It listed Robert as 48 years old, weighing 175 pounds, five feet nine inches in height, and having blue eyes and blonde hair. Robert L Brashear served as the trustee for Brashear lands that were sold on 12 January 1942 for 12,570.98. He distributed checks totaling 2,811.92 for taxes, attorney fees, and inherited portions of 340 each to five of the children of Walter Curren Brashear. On 8 September 1943, after distibuting a portion of the funds to Walter B McGinnis, he deposited the remaining 5,379.53 in American National Bank in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He then distributed equal shares on 6 January 1944 in the amount of 1344.88 to his brother Richard H Brashear, his sisters Zalame B Cottrell and Kathleen Brashear, and to himself. Robert Brashear issued a check to Zalame Cottrell for 1044.88, to Kathleen Brashear for 1244.88, and to Richard H Brashear for 1344.88 on 6 January 1944 to cover portions of their inheritance from the William Helm Brashear estate. After the death of Walter Brashear McGinnis on 1 September 1943, Robert Brashear cared for Walter's german shepherd "Rex" until he died on the evening of 16 January 1944 at 16 years of age. On 13 June 1944, Robert received a final settlement letter from Potter-Matlock Trust Co., as Administrator deBonis-Non of the William Helm Brashear estate. The letter covered a few final expenses, summarized the sale of the personal property, and notified Robert of his right to file any exceptions on or before the fourth Monday in June of that year. Robert Lansdale Brashear was appointed by the Warren County Court Administrator as the administrator of the estate of his mother, Della Z Brashear on 16 July 1951 in Warren County, Kentucky. He stated that the reason he was leaving the greater portion of his estate to his sister Kathleen was "because of her singleness and age and because of her greater liability to become dependent in her later years" and not because of less affection for his brother and sister. The will also appointed Kathleen H Brashear to be the administrator of his estate. He added a codicil to his will on 17 February 1953; that specifically left his bonds or stocks to his sister Kathleen H Brashear. He was confirmed on 21 June 1953 at Christ Episcopal Church, Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, by Bishop Charles Clingman. Robert never married.
