Two acres of land held 20 apple trees and 7 peach trees which produced 20 bushels of apples. Fifty cords of wood were also cut which were valued at 62 dollars.

Thomas Butler Birkhead married Ollie Mae Brown on 11 September 1931 in Daviess County, Kentucky. Thomas and Ollie Mae had two children, a son Rev. Thomas Larry Birkhead, and a daughter Nancy Ann who married a Foulke. They also had three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren at the time of Ollie Mae's death in 1971.

Thomas was a leading Democratic politician in Daviess County for 28 years. He served five terms as the elected county commissioner of the eastern division on the fiscal court starting in 1937. In 1959 he was elected as county judge and was re-elected in 1961 without opposition. He was defeated when he sought a third term but only by 291 votes where more than 15,000 were cast. During his tenure as judge he worked as probate judge, juvenile judge, judge of the Quarterly Court and presiding officer of the fiscal court.

Thomas Butler Birkhead died on 16 January 1971 in Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky, at age 66 at 7:30 in the evening at the Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was buried in Elmwood-Rose Hill Cemetery, Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky.
