     Peter Clarke was born in 1745. He married Mary Ann Cottrell, daughter of Richard Cottrell and Judith Smith, circa 1765. According to Mary Ann's father's will, she and her husband had several children, one of whom was named Richard Clarke. Richard's grandfather left him one Negro girl in his will in 1792 stating that the profits arising from the negro were to be equally divided between the rest of Mary's children. Mary was listed in the will as deceased. Another negro woman named Mell was left to all the children together.

This child was specifically named in the will of Richard Cottrell, father of Charles Cottrell with a bequith leaving him a negro girl named Dorcas.
